Wetherby Swimming Club

Wetherby Swimming Club also has a competitive branch known as Squad.  Squad swimmers have previously been identified as having potential and the training in Squad is more frequent, more intense and requires more commitment.

Our swimmers compete throughout the year at a number of galas around Yorkshire and we are pleased to say the results are good!

We want training to be enjoyed but we know it can be hard work; but hard work leads to success.  In order to continue with the successes we have had to date we expect our squad swimmers to show commitment (including an attendance record of at least 80%), motivation, a desire to learn, an ability to listen and enthusiasm!

* Squad runs for 48 weeks per year, with 2 x two week breaks at Christmas and in August. Saturday morning training sessions are during term time only

We have a team of coaches, led by Head Coach Alan Hutchinson, and between us we are responsible for the training and development of all our swimmers.  Collectively we have considerable knowledge, skills and experience, some of us having coached children to a competitive level for many years while others are able to draw on their own experiences swimming competitively.  We provide support and encouragement and assist swimmers in reaching their potential.  In addition to the coaching team we have the added support of parent volunteers who provide valuable poolside assistance.

Joining Squad

Periodically places become available in squad, usually for the younger swimmers, but the decision as to who is suitable to fill a space is down to the squad coaches.  Only Club swimmers can be considered for a place in Squad, therefore anyone interested needs to become a member of the Club and swim regularly in order for the coaches to assess their suitability.

If you are interested in joining Wetherby Swimming Club then please email Jo Harper at [email protected].  Jo is able to advise regarding availability of places, membership, costs and which club session would be most suitable.
